FCS Victories Over FBS: Bizarre World of Comparative Scores

In the bizarre world of comparative scores, two teams with FCS victories over FBS teams made a case for having been in the 2015 College Football Playoff.

Well, I did say bizarre world.  But both Portland State and The Citadel would have made it all the way to the College Football Playoff, instead of Michigan State, if comparative scores dictated the lineup.  Both of these were quality FCS teams that pulled off FCS victories over FBS teams during the regular season and both made the FCS playoffs.

There were Nine FCS Victories Over FBS teams in 2015

Check out Portland State’s path to the College Football Playoff if only comparative scores ruled the day:

Portland State 24 at Washington State 17

Washington State 37 at Rutgers 34

Rutgers 55 at Indiana 52

Indiana 54 at Purdue 36

Purdue 55 vs Nebraska 45

Nebraska 39 vs Michigan State 38

Four FCS Victories Over FBS in the First Week of 2015 Season

This proves that Portland State should have been selected for the College Football Playoff over Michigan State.  Proof, I tell you.  Everyone knows that comparative scores are the most accurate way to assess teams.  All roads to the College Football Playoff run thru Michigan State.  But more importantly, and please note, all roads to the National Championship run through Nebraska.

The Citadel also belonged in the College Football Playoff.  Mark it down:

The Citadel 23 at South Carolina 22

South Carolina 17 vs North Carolina 13 in Charlotte

North Carolina 48 vs Illinois 14

Illinois 14 vs Nebraska 13

Nebraska 39 vs Michigan State 38

The Citadel Caps 2015 Season’s FCS Victories over FBS

Listen, Einstein, this is mathematical proof that The Citadel deserved to be in the College Football Playoff over Michigan State.  Once again, all roads to the College Football Playoff run through Michigan State.  And, as every college football fan knows, all roads to the National Championship run through Nebraska.

I’m not saying these are the only teams that could have made a claim to the Mythical Comparative Scores College Football Playoff and National Championship in 2015.  But they might be.  However, I have run out of gas on this for the time being and, uh, I have to go.  I have to curate my yarn collection and, after that, there is a fantastic pottery sale at the mall.

Anyway, can you come up with a better one?  I wish someone out there would research Cumberland the year Georgia Tech smooshed the stuff out of them 222-0.  I bet Cumberland was in the hunt back then in 1916.  You hear that, Nebraska?  By golly, Cumberland was in the hunt!

(Yarn calling … )
