There were seven FCS victories over FBS teams in 2018. It is instructive to review these results.
These seven teams are the candidates for The Mythical FCS Victories Over FBS 2018 National Championship.
Let the carnage begin:
Nicholls State 26 at Kansas 23 OT
Villanova 19 at Temple 17
Northern Arizona 30 at UTEP 10

The Colonial and the Big Sky led FCS honors with two FCS victories over FBS teams, apiece, in 2018. The AAC, C-USA, and the Mountain West each lost two games to FCS opponents.
Nicholls State, UC Davis, and Maine all made the FCS playoffs. Nicholls State won a game, Davis advanced to the round of eight, and Maine is still alive as of this writing and is facing Eastern Washington in the national semi-finals. Congratulations to those three.
North Carolina A&T is in the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. They may be the class of the HBCU in football and are proving that they are simply better than a number of FBS teams, having won FBS games the last three years in a row.
Three FBS coaches who lost to FCS teams in 2018 were run out of town: David Beaty of Kansas, Scottie Montgomery of East Carolina, and Mike Sanford of Western Kentucky.
Conversely, one FBS coach who lost to an FCS team managed to engineer a Power Five, ACC job out of the carnage. Geoff Collins, of Temple, not only got the Owls into a bowl game, but also got the gig at Georgia Tech. The Evil Eye has it on good authority that keeping things close against Villanova is what sealed the job. Villanova was 2-6 in the Colonial and the Ramblin’ Wreck got their man.
Accordingly, Villanova wins The Mythical FCS Victories Over FBS 2018 National Championship. Not only did the Wildcats do it with a losing record in conference, they did it with a losing record overall at 5-6. They kicked Collins upstairs to the Yellowjackets and Temple still made a bowl game with a pretty good team. And they did it with brotherly love. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
